How to Apply for a Ground Zero Canine

At Ground Zero, our mission is to prepare highly trained search and rescue canines for deployment-ready teams across the nation. Our application process is designed to ensure each dog is placed with the right handler, maximizing their life-saving potential.

Below is an overview of the steps required to apply for and receive a Ground Zero canine. From the initial inquiry to the Passing of the Leash Ceremony, each step plays a vital role in building a successful partnership.

1. Preliminary inquiry submitted through www.groundzerosaveslives.com


2. Preliminary contact with GZ team to identify needs and basic criteria for qualification.
 

3. Submit the completed GZ Canine Application and supporting documentation.
 

4. Complete Handler Interview and Questionnaire with the GZ team.
 

5. Maintain required training with team, complete prerequisites if applicable, communicate with GZ frequently.
 

6. Respond in a timely manner to dog pairing and handler course opportunities with GZ.
 

7. Complete the required GZ handler course curriculum in its entirety.
 

8. Participate in the GZ Passing of the Leash Ceremony.
 

9. Adhere to all terms and conditions of the GZ Canine Handler Agreement.
 

10. Applicants may cancel their application to receive a GZ dog at any time by notifying the Client Services Coordinator in writing. Applicants may reapply at any time.


GZ reserves the right at any point in the application, training, or placement procedure to terminate the process at their discretion. Priority is given to applicants in the state of Oklahoma.
