salt dough paw print

Paw Print Art

Last week we shared a fun way to make homemade dog treats with just 3 ingredients. Today, we’re sharing another fun activity you can do with your dog…salt dough paw prints! You can turn these into ornaments, garden stepping stones or just a fun piece of art to display on a bookshelf.

We followed a simple recipe for salt dough to make these.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour*
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup cold water

*We substituted gluten free flour in our recipe because our helper has Celiac. In case you need to make a gluten free version, this substitute worked great.

  • Mix flour and salt together and gradually add water into the flour mixture until the dough is smooth and easy to work with. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. (You can also add food coloring to the dough if you’d like or you can paint it after baking).
  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees
  • Flour a surface and roll the dough out or you can form the shapes with your hands, (we found it easiest to use a large drinking glass to cut out round shapes for the paw prints)
  • Next, you will want to put the cut-outs on a cookie sheet and gently press your dog’s paw into the center of the cut-out dough. You may need a friend to help hold the pan and one to help make your dog’s print.
  • Bake in the preheat oven until it is dry and hard (about 2 hours). Let it cool completely before painting.
  • Voila! You have your own custom paw print art!

We had fun painting ours and adding glitter!

We also used some of the extra dough to make hand print art.

Piper had fun checking out her very own custom paw print art!

We hope you have fun making these salt dough paw prints! Please be sure to tag us on social media if you make your own! We’d love to see your creations. Or email your photos to us!
